The Bastide de l'Oliveraie is located in the heart of Cannes. Today, we invite you to discover one of the city’s most beautiful cultural centres; the charming Musée de la Castre.
A treasure on the heights
Perched on the heights of the Suquet hill, in the superb historic district of Cannes, is the medieval château of the Lérins monks and the Musée de la Castre. Here you can discover prestigious collections belonging to the city of Cannes, including art and artefacts from Himalaya-Tibet, Oceania and pre-Columbian America, as well as Mediterranean antiquities and 19th century orientalist paintings and crafts. Don’t miss the 12th century Romanesque Saint-Anne’s Chapel and its fine collection of some 400 musical instruments from around the world (Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas).
The château was laid out as a fortified building, a castle and keep, and in the museum’s central courtyard stands a medieval square watchtower. Climb the 109 steps to the top and you will be amply rewarded with an exceptional panorama of Cannes, its coast and hinterland.
A museum amidst nature’s beauty
At the entrance to the Museum you can enjoy a picturesque garden planted with Mediterranean species and umbrella pines that commands a beautiful view over the resort’s famous beaches. Step inside the museum and discover a timeless place brimming with historic treasures from all over the world. It’s a wonderful opportunity for a family outing.
Take part in workshops for all ages
Throughout the year, the Musée de la Castre offers workshops for children (5 to 13 years old) as well as workshops where adults can learn different techniques of drawing, sketching, painting and even engraving. Come and fulfil your artistic dreams!
